Ellie and Her Two Overly Helpful Dog Sisters

Every household has its own unique family dynamic. In our home, that dynamic includes one small but confident cat named Ellie and her two fluffy dog sisters, Aspen and Willow. Aspen and Willow are Australian Shepherds, which means they are smart, energetic, and very serious about their self-appointed job of supervising absolutely everything that moves… including Ellie.

Ellie, for her part, does not fear the dogs in the slightest. She doesn’t run from them, hide from them, or even give them much credit for being important. Instead, she treats them the way a queen might tolerate two slightly overenthusiastic palace guards. They mean well, but they’re definitely a bit much.

The Herding Situation

Australian Shepherds are famous for their herding instincts, and Aspen and Willow take this responsibility very seriously. Unfortunately for Ellie, they sometimes believe she is a tiny, striped sheep that has wandered away from the flock.

This results in the occasional “herding attempt” around the living room. The dogs circle. Ellie strolls forward like she’s on a casual afternoon walk. Aspen comes flying in from one side. Willow blocks the other. Ellie pauses, looks at them both with complete disinterest, and continues walking wherever she wanted to go in the first place. Sometimes, though, she feels the need to escape from the situation.

It’s less of a successful herding event and more of a mildly confusing parade.

The Water Bowl Heist

Ellie also has a habit that the dogs have never quite figured out: she uses the dog water bowl. Despite having perfectly good cat water available, Ellie will casually wander over and help herself to a drink from Aspen and Willow’s bowl like she pays the household utilities.

The dogs often stand nearby watching her with a look that seems to say, “Technically… that’s ours.” But since Ellie shows absolutely zero concern about ownership laws, they simply wait their turn like polite, slightly bewildered roommates.

Treat Time: A Shared Hobby

One thing the whole household agrees on is treat time. The moment the treat container opens, Aspen and Willow come running at full speed. Almost magically, Ellie appears too, as if she has been quietly monitoring the situation from a hidden surveillance location.

Within seconds, all three siblings are lined up like a very unusual little team: two fluffy herding dogs and one very confident cat. Ellie sits there calmly, fully expecting to receive her fair share, and to be honest, she usually does.

The Window Perch Escape Plan

Even though Ellie tolerates her dog sisters quite well, every queen needs a place to retreat when the court becomes too noisy. When Aspen and Willow get a little too enthusiastic about their herding duties, Ellie simply executes her escape plan.

With one graceful hop, she launches herself onto her window perch where the dogs cannot follow. From this elevated throne, she watches the world outside while the dogs remain on the floor below, looking up like they’ve just lost track of the most important sheep in the county.

Ellie sits there calmly, tail wrapped neatly around her paws, clearly pleased with the arrangement.

A Slightly Unusual Sisterhood

At the end of the day, Ellie, Aspen, and Willow make a pretty entertaining trio. The dogs are gentle, the cat is fearless, and everyone somehow manages to live together in a mixture of curiosity, tolerance, and the occasional attempted herding maneuver.

Ellie may not fully appreciate having two Australian Shepherd sisters, but she certainly knows how to manage them. Between the water bowl heists, the treat lineups, and the strategic window perch escapes, it’s clear that this tiny cat is running the household in her own quiet way.

And Aspen and Willow? They’re just doing their best to keep the flock together… even if the smallest member refuses to cooperate.
